U.S. DRIVE Integrated Systems Analysis Tech Team


The Integrated Systems Analysis Tech Team (ISATT) supports the U.S. DRIVE Partnership (the Partnership) by addressing specific research questions that cut across multiple fuel/vehicle technology pathways (including advanced internal combustion engines, biofuels, electric, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles), infrastructure technologies (including those that improve operation of current and future vehicles), and trends that impact the transportation space (for example, changes in vehicle usage).  ISATT draws on and complements  existing systems tech team (such as FPITT, GITT, and VSATT) expertise and capabilities in integrated systems (i.e., beyond the scope of any other single systems tech team) research and analysis frameworks.  ISATT applies an integrated systems analysis approach to both end-state and transitional pathways or scenarios. Areas of study may include light-duty vehicle analysis in a broader transportation sector context, contributions of the transportation sector toward broader societal objectives, and comparison of those efforts in the transportation sector to efforts achieving similar goals in other economic sectors.  From these and other relevant topics acknowledged as relevant to the Partnership and potentially deserving ISATT attention, the ISATT membership will propose, prioritize, and undertake specific studies through regularly scheduled multi-year strategic planning activities (scheduled to align with roadmapping undertaken other tech teams), and Annual Plans will be reviewed with the JOG

ISATT reviews publicly available, on-going, and completed techno-economic and environmental assessments of integrated fuel/vehicle pathways to identify knowledge gaps or analysis toolset deficiencies.  ISATT takes on specific projects to address knowledge gaps, developing new tools and methods where necessary.  ISATT also informs the U.S. DRIVE partnership technology portfolio direction by contextualizing technical targets (Target-Setting Process), assessing transition barriers, and quantifying the potential benefits of longer-term success. Activities are coordinated with other technical teams of the Partnership to promote consistency between analysis and modeling efforts and to ensure effective use of resources.  Upon consensus in the technical team and Joint Operations Group (JOG) endorsement, final results of ISATT analysis are typically published as national laboratory and/or peer reviewed technical reports with authorship offered to, but not required from, ISATT project participants.  Tools and data sets developed by ISATT may also be published for use by the broader transportation research community.
